The architectural Parametric Design Engine (aPDE) is a prototype of a web based tool enabling customers to change the configuration of a house in a 3D interface. The aPDE is a mock-up which shows the great potential of the software putting a special focus on the navigation and manipulation of objects in 3D space in a way suitable for lay-persons. Most of the time, even with commercially sold products, the handling of the 3D objects is too difficult to allow lay-persons to quickly make use of the software. I tried to overcome this problem by reducing the freedom of movement in the 3D space in order to have the interface resemble a interactice 3D game more than CAD software. Nevertheless a lot of manipulations are possible. The user customer can, based on the design of and restricted by the rules laid down by the architect, get to his individual version of the house in a very efficient and intuitive way. open the aPDE website
