internet registration software for design courses - Department for Architecture, ETH Zürich

In order to facilitate to distribute the students of the 3rd to 8th semester between the more than 14 design courses according to their preferences, i developed a web based registration software for the Department of Architecture at the ETH Zurich. The interface enables the students to view the programs of the courses and afterwards specify a priority list of design studios over the internet. According to this ranking the the placement in the different design courses of the individual students was optimized. At a later stage i reused the interface and database in order to create a web based, automatic account creation system for the computer cluster of the Department of Architecture. Using this web application more than 250 students create their own user accounts every year. To do so, the official student data is used to verify the authenticity of the students and several PERL scripts create the accounts over night taking into account the presets in meta-files and the space availale on the the server hard disks. At the same time the students are registered in the databases feeding the CAAD courses. open the registration pages
